The gap
Under section 6E(1A) of the Privacy Act, AML/CTF reporting entities must follow the Australian Privacy Principles for AML-related personal information. Turnover doesn't matter.
That means ID checks, PEP and sanctions screening, source of funds questions, and records you must keep for seven years.
Most generic privacy policies don't mention any of it.
Coming into effect
From 10 December 2026, your privacy policy must explain when software uses personal information to make, or help make, significant decisions. Online ID verification, sanctions screening and risk scoring can all count.
Our questionnaire works out what you need to disclose and writes it for you.
